2018 Reading Goals

As a writer, its always great jumping into the new year. I always feel like I have a new opportunity to correct something that I probably didn't do quite as well last year and lately one of those things has been reading. Of course being a Masters student and mother of three doesn't automatically allow easy access to reading in the way that I quite wish that it would. However, I have commited this year to forcing myself to read, not for class but literally just for me. During my English undergrad I will not forget the professor I had that said if we truly wished to be successful writers we should read ten books before writing, read ten more books then rewrite. Now, if I'm absolutely honest, my life is not quite that free, but I am committing to reading at least a book a month this year.
The great thing about this comment is that it inspired my husband, who is a social studies teacher, to also want to read more and commit to at least a book a month. So we started a book club with each other, each of us gets a choice book every other month. His books are for the odd months. He has a very different variety of books than I have and visa versa, one of the things that know as a writer is that reading should be of various styles and genres. I haven't quite started yet as the beginning of the year has been hectic as is life, right? But, I feel like its going to go well. I am excited because my husband will be by my side and having friends through these moments always makes it easier. Now I just have to find time to write.
